Many of us experience anxiety and depression on some level on a daily basis. We may think that it’s from the stress in life, which it very well may be. However, did you know that there are actually physical causes to anxiety and depression know as “cause types?”
That’s right! A “cause type” is an actual breakdown in the human body that greatly reduces its ability to tolerate stress. As a result, the person can become more anxious and depressed. In addition, the person can experience various symptoms such as:
- Food cravings
- Insomnia
- Belly fat
- Reduce sex drive
- Fatigue
- Hair loss
- General feelings of malaise
Now there are 4 “cause types” that we are going to discuss today...
The 1st cause is the Adrenals. There are many reasons why the adrenal glands fatigue, however, one of the main reasons is inflammation. When there is too much inflammation in a person’s body the adrenals are forced to produce the hormone cortisol. Cortisol is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory hormones that your body makes.
Now if this increase in inflammation is only short lived then it’s not a big deal. However, if the inflammation is chronic in nature, then the adrenals are forced to constantly release cortisol making them stressed and exhausted.
Symptoms of stressed adrenals that are producing anxiety and depression are:
- Fatigue
- Shorter Fuse
- Brain Fog
- Tired like after lunch
- Insomnia
- Walk a flight of stairs and are out of breath
- Legs get heavy feeling
- Don’t get a second wind when they are exercising
- Get lightheaded if they stand up too fast.
- Crave Salt
- Edema or swelling in the ankles
- Belly fat
Stressed Adrenals cause inappropriate cortisol output, leaving people anxious and depressed.
The 2nd cause type is Thyroid disfunction. When the thyroid is not function properly a person can be left with anxiety and depression as well as the following key symptoms:
- Depressed
- Fatigued
- Craving carbohydrate
- Weight gain all over
- Loss of the other 1/4 of the eyebrow
- Loss of hair
- Reduced sex drive
- Dry skin
- Week nails.
Thyroid dysfunction can be caused by 39 different factors.
Here are a few of the more common causes.
- Iodine deficiency–the thyroid needs iodine to produce it’s thyroid hormone.
- Mercury toxicity–mercury will stop iodine from being absorbed into the thyroid gland creating thyroid dysfunction.
- Chlorine, Bromine and Fluorine toxicity will also block iodine from being absorbed into the thyroid.
- Liver dysregulation will stop the conversion of T4 to T3 as seen below.
Some people with improper thyroid hormone function are taking thyroid medication but their body can’t properly convert the T4 in the medication to T3, which is the most active form of thyroid hormone. This is often the result a liver dysregulation as stated above.
The 3rd cause is Toxicity. The liver is the great hormone balancer and when it is not functioning optimally your hormones can go out of balance creating anxiety and depression. The liver has 694 functions and its main function is to detoxify poisons from the body. When your liver gets too overworked it backs up like a toilet bowl.
If your anxiety and depression are caused by toxicity you may be experiencing these following symptoms:
- Swelling in the lower legs, ankles and fingers.
- Bags under the eyes
- Low vitamin D
- Itching
- Hives
- Psoriasis
- Dandruff
- Red dots on skin
- Brown age spots on skin
- Breath is musty or foul.
- Pot belly
- Thinner in arms, legs and butt
The 4th cause type is the Gut. The Brain-Gut connection is a term used to describe the two way communication between our brain and gut. The brain has an effect on the stomach and intestines and vice versa. Parasites, yeasts, fungi, bacteria, molds and other bad guys produce inflammation in the intestines, which may cause anxiety and depression, as well as, other intestinal symptoms such as:
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- IBS
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
- Sinus problems
- Constantly clearing throat
- Bloating
- Skin peeling on the soles of your feet (parasites).
These causes can be the root of a person’s anxiety and depression.
