Healthy Gut for a Healthy You

It was Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine who said, “All disease begins in the gut.”

Now, notice, he didn’t say, “Most disease begins in the gut.”  Nor did he say “Some disease begins in the gut.”  He intentionally said, “All disease begins in the gut,” because your gut can literally impact the health and function of every part of your body.

There are two types of Root Cause gut problems.  The Root Cause, is the reason why a person is suffering with their health or weight concern.  It is not a symptom or effect, it is the root or cause to the condition.

The first type of gut condition is called an overt gut problem and the second type is called a hidden gut problem.

Overt gut problems are problems in the gut that create gut symptoms.

Examples of this are:

  • GERD
  • Heartburn
  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Chron’s Disease
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Gastric ulcers
  • Duodenal ulcers
  • Esophagitis
  • IBS
  • IBD
  • Colitis

Hidden gut problems are problems in the gut that are create no or only mild gut symptoms but are the 100% root cause or reason why a person has their health problem.

Examples of this are:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Joint pain
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Mood swings or irritability
  • Adrenal problems
  • Thyroid problems
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Immune weakness
  • Sinus and allergy problems

“How could this be?”, you might be thinking.  “How is it possible that a problem in my gut could create anxiety, depression or autoimmune disease?”

Well, let’s just take a quick look at the symptoms of anxiety and depression.  Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps us been in a good mood and is the main neurotransmitter that most antidepressants effect.

Well, did you know that 90% to 95% of all the serotonin produced in a person’s body is made in the gastrointestinal tract and not the brain?

Did you also know that 70% to 80% of your entire immune system is not housed in your blood, liver or bones but in your gut?

Did you know that you have 10 times more bacteria present in the gut than you have cells in your whole entire body?

It is mind blowing when we start to understand the full magnitude of which our gut impacts the health and function of our body.

However, just saying, “Well it must be my gut.” doesn’t really solve a person’s health problem.  They have to take it a few steps further.  They have to ask:

  1. What exactly is wrong in my gut? Is it a parasite, yeast, bacteria, mold, heavy metal, environmental toxin, food sensitivity, loss of enzymes, low stomach acid production?…I can keep going because the list is really, really, really, long…LOL.
  2. How do I address this problem?  Once a person finds what is wrong in their gut then they have to find out exactly what to do about it.

An easier way to say this is, “What’s the root cause and what do I do about it?”

That is the purpose of the below Gut Evaluation.  It is the first major step at pointing us in the direction of understanding what the root cause is to your health or weight problem.

I personally put this Gut Evaluation together after 26 years of being in practice and working with almost 50,000 patients and clients all around the world.  It is an incredible tool and I highly recommend that you take a moment and fill it out.

Much Love,

Dr. Rob
