Alkalosis
Alkalosis is a condition characterized by an excessive alkalinity, or high pH, in the blood and body tissues. It occurs as a result of certain conditions over-producing alkaline (high PH) substances such as bicarbonates or a decrease in the ability of the body to remove acids such as carbonic acid from carbon dioxide.
This can be caused by various factors, such as hyperventilation, certain medications, or underlying health conditions. Alkalosis can lead to symptoms like muscle twitching, nausea, confusion, and even seizures in severe cases. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause and restoring the acid-base balance.
Acidosis
Acidosis is a condition characterized by an excessive acidity, or low pH, in the blood and body tissues. It occurs when there is an imbalance in the acid-base levels, specifically an excess of acid or a decrease in bicarbonate levels. Acidosis can be caused by factors such as kidney disease, uncontrolled diabetes, respiratory disorders, or certain medications. Symptoms may include fatigue, confusion, rapid breathing, and in severe cases, organ dysfunction. Treatment aims to address the underlying cause and restore the acid-base balance.
High Alkaline Foods
1. Leafy greens: Spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and other leafy greens are highly alkaline and rich in minerals and vitamins.
2. Cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage are alkaline vegetables that provide numerous health benefits.
3. Citrus fruits: Although citrus fruits are acidic in nature, they have an alkalizing effect on the body once metabolized. Examples include lemons, limes, and grapefruits.
4. Avocado: Avocado is a nutrient-dense fruit that is considered alkaline-forming due to its high mineral content.

High Acidity Foods
1. Fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir, kimchi and other fermented vegetables.
2. Vinegar: Various types of vinegar, such as apple cider vinegar or white vinegar, have acidic properties.
3. Cranberries: Fresh cranberries or cranberry juice are acidic in nature.
4. Tomatoes: Tomatoes and tomato-based products like tomato sauce or tomato juice are considered acidic.
5. Sour fruits: Some sour fruits like sour cherries or sour plums have higher acidity levels.
