The adrenals are located above your kidneys and are responsible for producing hormones such as cortisol. Cortisol is our stress hormone that helps to control blood sugar levels, regulate metabolism, and help reduce inflammation. Adrenal fatigue occurs when the adrenals have become overworked by the release of excess cortisol and can no longer produce optimal levels.
There are many symptoms of adrenal fatigue. You may have fatigue, you wake up tired, go through your morning with low energy, have lunch and then crash after lunch. Adrenal cases wake up in the evening.
You will have pain and inflammation. Something just hurts! The adrenal glands are the anti-inflammatory glands of the body. When they become weak they can no longer deal with the pain and inflammation.
Adrenal Fatigue will cause salt and sugar cravings. The adrenals produce a hormone called aldosterone which effects your ability to properly retain sodium. As a result, they will crave salt. The adrenal case will crave sugar because the adrenal glands help to maintain blood sugars between meals. When the glands become weak the sugar can fall and the adrenal fatigued person can get hypoglycemic between meals.
Anxiety and Depression can be a symptom of adrenal fatigue. Your mind doesn’t shut off, it’s always spinning causing you to become mentally drained. When cortisol is release in amounts not suitable for the body to keep up with it can lead to physiological changes and cause symptoms of anxiety and depression. Sometimes your fuse might be shorter and you can’t handle stress the way you used to.
You can have difficulty loosing weight. You’re doing everything right, you’re working out, watching what you eat but nothing is helping to shed the unwanted pounds.
Adrenal fatigue can negatively affect your immune system causing you to catch colds or the flu more easily.
Too many people simply walk around with these symptoms and are unfortunately given no solutions.
