Adrenal fatigue is caused by stress to our body and it comes in many different forms. It can be work related stress, family stress, not getting enough sleep, or even diet and exercise can cause stress to our bodies.

If you have or suspect you have adrenal fatigue don’t do these things listed below or you will stress your body.

Adrenal Fatigue? Don't do These Things

Don’t skip meals or intermittent fast – Your adrenal glands help play a role in maintaining normal blood sugar levels in between meals.

If you go too long without eating then the adrenal glands have to work harder, producing extra cortisol to maintain adequate blood sugar levels.

Over time this could possibly fatigue the adrenals or certainly worsen a case of adrenal fatigue.

Eating several small meals a day is best to maintain proper blood sugar levels.Adrenal Fatigue? Don't Do These Things

No coffee after 12:00 p.m. – Drinking coffee after 12:00 p.m. can over stress the adrenals. Our cortisol levels start a downward trend later in the day. By drinking coffee after 12:00 p.m. you are forcing cortisol levels into an unnatural state. Adrenal Fatigue? Don't Do These Things

No intense exercise – Long runs and high intensity interval training act differently on the body, however, both are stressful.

Since the adrenal glands are the stress glands of the body, these two forms of exercise can exhaust those glands worsening a case of adrenal fatigue. You want to walk, do yoga, light cardio exercises or swimming in a chlorine-free pool.

Don’t eat high carb or high sugar meals – When we eat high carb or high sugar meals it causes a temporary spike in our blood sugar which means our body is going to increase insulin production. Increased insulin production is stressful to the adrenal glands.

Don’t stay up late –  When a person forces their body up past 11 p.m. it can significantly stress the adrenals, worsening adrenal fatigue. At night time your adrenal glands are meant to be relatively inactive so they can heal, repair and recharge themselves.

Don’t worry! The brain interprets “worry” as a stressful action and causes the adrenal glands to start to produce certain neurotransmitters and hormones. Constant worrying then puts constant stress on the adrenal glands worsening cases of adrenal fatigue.

I think the Serenity Prayer summed it up best,
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”
